Washington D.C.

D.C. was a great diversion in the middle of February. Despite some snow on the ground when we arrived, the rest of the week felt like Spring, then promptly returned to Winter as soon as we left. Thank you D.C., 60 degrees felt good.

This trip was a part of my internship with One by One, an awesome organization doing important work.

We brought high school students to the U.S. Capitol to meet with representatives and senators (or more accurately their staffers) to tell them about fistula. Our students were eloquent and persuasive, and I couldn't have been more proud of them. We also had the opportunity to meet with individuals at the State Department, UNFAO, CARE, and a host of other organizations.

Perhaps the BEST part of our trip was a tour of the White House's West Wing. I nearly melted into a puddle of excitement and just about cried standing outside an open door to the Oval Office. The press room was the only place we were allowed to take photos.
